The Challenge

IMPROVING MANUAL PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCT DELIVERY ERROR TRACKING & RESOLUTION. The client, a leading generic pharmaceutical manufacturing company, was manually tracking errors surrounding the shipment of products to customers. With the recent Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requiring an audit trail of all drug movement of serialized products, the client realized an automated solution would better ensure compliance with serialization requirements, and also improve error resolution.

Aspect was engaged to create a custom application to fully automate the client’s exception tracking & reporting process. 

The Solution

ENHANCED SHIPMENT ERROR TRACKING AND MANAGEMENT

The application solution allows users to log shipment exceptions and warehouse related damage issues, track the serial numbers associated, assign resolution tasks to the accountable group, and track outcomes in one centralized system, reducing manual workload and ensuring no errors are overlooked.

IDENTIFIES DATA TRANSMISSION ERRORS & PROBLEM LOTS

The solution integrated with the client’s ERP system and shipping transmission protocols, allowing the solution to automatically detect and track delivery data transmission errors and their resolution.

The system also allows users to flag problems with product lots and quickly identify deliveries that may be associated with those issues. 

REPORTING & ANALYTICS FOR REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

The solution allows users to input and track the serialized products associated with delivery issues, so that they can be traced accurately from manufacture to delivery, helping the client meet Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requirements.

Errors involving controlled substances must be reported to regulatory bodies. With Exception Tracker, the client can now automatically generate the required correspondence quickly, and ensure an audit trail of resolution.

In addition, the solution provides administrators with analytics which enabled the client to  better identify recurring issues with specific products and carriers, and better track resolution time and accountability, which ultimately lead to more optimized business processes surrounding product delivery.
